Legal Requirements

The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 , also referred to as HASAW or HSW, is the primary piece of legislation covering occupational health and safety in the United Kingdom. The Health and Safety Executive is responsible for enforcing the Act and a number of other Acts and Statutory Instruments relevant to the working environment.

The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 states that every employer must enlist one or more competent persons to assist them in complying with their statutory duties under Health & Safety Law. Where no competent person exists within a company the services of an external Health and Safety Consultant or Advisor should be sought.

Risk Assessments must be carried out, they should identify significant hazards arising from your work activities and introduce controls to minimise risks to employees or others that may be subject to them.

RSM can provide a competent person as defined under Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 to assist with your Health and Safety requirements and carry out Risk assessments, we have extensive experience of working with a wide range of clients and currently support and advise them on Health, Safety and Environmental issues.
