About Ryedale Safety Management and Business training...
Don Graham established RSM in 1996 following a 31 year RAF career as an engineer
officer. He is a Graduate Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health
(IOSH) and a CIEH Professional Trainer. Born in Scarborough he completed a motor
technician’s apprenticeship before joining the RAF and serving at bases all over
the world. He saw action in Aden and during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.
As project manager for the £30m RAF airfield radar replacement programme
he faced unique challenges at locations as diverse as the Rock of Gibraltar to the
jungles of Belize. Equally challenging was a period spent managing the safe
transportation of nuclear weapons within the UK. On appointment as Station
Commander of an RAF unit in South Yorkshire he assumed the role of a large company
CEO with the accompanying health, safety and welfare responsibilities for servicemen
and women, their families and civilian workers. Subsequently as a senior staff
officer he lectured on health and safety and management skills at the RAF College
Cranwell and the Officers’ Command School Henlow. His specialist areas within
RSM are the motor industry, Planning Coordinator duties within the Construction
Design and Management Regulations 2007 and as Principal Tutor in the Management
Training department.
Don is a Chairman magistrate often presiding over health and safety cases. He is
an active Rotarian and chairman of the Northern Safety Group which has members from
the Scarborough and district business community.
A lifelong involvement in motorsport has seen participation in karting, motorcycle
racing and international rallying.
